A professional performance from the boys tonight delivered all 3 points in what could have been a tricky final home game. This result sets us up nicely for our final game decider away to Sauchie next weekend. Win and we will be league champions and treble winners. Whilst it’s a 50/50 game, we’ve beaten them in 3 out of our 4 matches this season and they were the 3 matches where winning really mattered. So, all the pressure now piles onto Sauchie, and when this season they’ve had the pressure of having to win to claim a trophy they have fallen at the final hurdle both times. We go into that match knowing we have the team, mentality and experience to earn a result when it matters.
The boys knew they needed to start quickly and within 2 minutes we were 1-0 up, with Gregor heading home a Kaspar corner. 3 minutes later the dynamic duo combined again, as Kaspar beat his man on the left wing and floated a cross into the 6 yard box for an unmarked Gregor to head home. It took a while for the 3rd goal to come, but once it did in the 35th minute it felt like was game over. A loose ball broke to Ciaran in the box and he slammed it home to make it a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
The team started the second half with pace, free flowing football and the same clinical finishing as the first half. Within 4 minutes we were 5-0 up. Gregor completed his hat-trick as he slotted home past the keeper having been played in on goal by Andrew. Gregor then turned creator as he started off a beautiful move with his pass releasing Ciaran down the right wing. Ciaran’s whipped cross to the back post was clinically finished by Kaspar. Kaspar then grabbed his brace as he scored from what looked like an impossible angle on the byline, clipping the ball into the net from Blake’s pass. Roles were then reversed with Kaspar making it a hat-trick of assists as he played in Blake, who fired a low shot past the keeper to make the scoreline 7-0.
What could have been a tricky night was made to look comfortable by the boys, with the result never looking in doubt. Logan and Mack put in man of the match performances for the team and all the subs managed to get good game time. The boys go into the final game of their DSC 2007 careers with the opportunity to claim a truly remarkable treble. At the start of the season we’d have been delighted with one trophy, we already have two in the bag… but how good does treble winners sound… the dream is still on. See you all at Sauchie on Saturday!
