What a day; what a team; what a season; what a journey!
Today belongs to us all, every player, parent and coach who has given everything to get us to this point today. This is the dream culmination of all the hard work of the players and coaches at training; the parent taxis to training and matches; the nursing of the boys back to fitness after injuries. Thank you for all the hard work from the boys, parents and all the many coaches over the years (you all know who you are!). This is a journey we’ve all shared and this is a remarkable season we will always remember.
I’m sitting here thinking what do I write about today, what do I feel about today. The words that come into my head about Cian and the journey he’s been on aren’t mine, but they say it better than I ever could. As somebody once said ‘talent borrows, genius steals’:
I’ve been loving you a long time
Down all the years, down all the days
And I’ve cried for all your troubles
Smiled at your funny little ways
We watched your friends grow up together
Now DSC 2007’s is nearly over
We’ll probably never realise what this time means
Still there’s a light I hold before me
You’re the measure of my dreams
(MacGowan ish - 1990)
We always knew today was going to be a tight game of few chances and that the team who kept calm and took their chances would come out on top and claim the title in this winner takes all match. Gregor got us off to a fantastic start as he coolly slotted home from Ciaran’s cross in the 4th minute. Even though we went in 1-1 at half-time, it always felt like our team had enough; had the desire and had the belief to get a result today. In the 65th minute Scott took a throw in, Andrew flicked his header on and Gregor was on hand to head home in the 6 yard box. Once we’d retaken the lead it felt that the title was on it’s way back to Dunblane and the boys managed the game brilliantly after that. Seeing the boys celebrate when the ref blew the final whistle was a special moment.
So just take another moment to let it sink in… the 2024/25 CSFA B League Champions… Divisional Cup Winners… League Cup Winners. I know this is a team game, but in this last ever match report I have to call out for the first time all the hours of hard work the coaching team of John, Scott and Stephen have put in. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the boys, the impact you’ve had has been immense and the joy this season has given us all as players and parents will never be forgotten. I don’t think any other Dunblane Head Coach has claimed the treble, so well done Head Coach John. To be honest I’m a bit worried about how Ailsa is going to cope now… John’s going to be soooo annoying… if he’s not at training or matches, he’s planning for them or thinking about them.
As somebody once said ‘I am sad it’s ending, though I count myself lucky to have been part of this experience and being able to share it with you, the coaches and the boys’ (Attwell - 2025)
