On a day of stormy weather the team put on a performance of total control to tear apart Third Lanark. The boys dominated the match from beginning to end and the approach of going with a strong bench and using rolling subs throughout worked well. In reality we should have scored more than the 6 goals we did, if we’d just been a bit more clinical in front of goal. One of the most pleasing things about the game was the way the goals and assists were shared across the team, with 5 boys scoring and 5 creating goals. It was also great to limit Third Lanark to 2 shots all match, with the only disappointment that they scored with one, to deny us the clean sheet.
Despite lots of early pressure and chances, it took us till the 19th minute to open the scoring. But when the goal came it was worth the wait, with man of the match Jamie going on a driving run through their defence, before playing in Dylan who hammered the ball home. A 5 minute burst of goal scoring then meant it was game over by the 36th minute. In the 31st minute it was Jamie’s turn to get on the scoresheet, as Gregor laid the ball the ball off to him and he slotted it past the keeper. The third goal was a thing of beauty and summed up another great performance from Dylan, he showed his awareness and skills as he played a backheel pass across the length of the 6 yard box for Kaspar to tap in at the back post. Then another sign that we have Nathan back to his best, with his first goal of the season as he headed in Kaspar’s corner to give us a 4-0 halftime lead.
We continued to dominate in the second half, but it was disappointing that we were a bit sloppy to give away a free kick outside the box, then not deal with the cross, and give up our clean sheet so easily. But we did add another couple of goals to finish up with a 6-1 win that we’d have happily taken beforehand. Dylan scored the second of his brace as he hammered home a brilliant finish from a great Gregor cross from the byline. Then Gregor grabbed his goal, with a cross from Murray ending a great flowing move of one touch football.
So lots of things to be happy about as we all drove back from Lanarkshire; a fantastic performance in tough conditions; some great goals; all the boys played well; 3 points bagged making it 8 league matches and 8 wins. Another professional performance from the team, and winning is a great habit :-)
